The Canton electrical JATC apprenticeship is a five-year program that includes a minimum of 8000 hours of on-the-job training, and a minimum of 180 hours per year of related classroom instruction in order to reach journeyman status. A certificate of completion is issued by the State of Ohio.
The electrical construction trade involves the following, but is not limited to:
1. Installing the electrical systems and associated wiring in commercial buildings, including the lighting, communication, and control systems.
2. Installing the electrical systems and associated wiring in industrial buildings. This work may include work on overhead steel structures and in excavations of trenches or ditches.
3. You will be required to climb ladders and work on scaffolds. You must not be afraid of heights.
4. You will be required to work indoors and outdoors in various environments
5. You could be asked to drive within a 40-mile radius of Canton and must have reliable transportation.
Apprentices have a financial obligation for their book fee ($50.00 first year, then second through the fifth year apprentices will be responsible for full payment of books).
There is also an Inside Policy Statement that the apprentice must sign and abide by every year that they are in the apprenticeship. Any Violation of the policy statement will result in a disciplinary action as listed in the policy statement.
